International Women’s Day 2025
In honour of International Women’s Day, here are some facts about women in dentistry!
The first woman to get a degree in dentistry was Lucy Hobbs Taylor, in 1866.
These days, around half of students graduating from dentistry are female.
In 2020, 53.8% of dental practitioners in Australia are female. This includes women registered as general and specialist dentists, dental therapists, oral health therapists, dental hygienists and dental prosthetists.
Here at Canberra Dental Care we are proud to include so many amazing and strong women in our numbers. Men have traditionally dominated the dental industry. We are breaking down that image. Our business is proudly 100% locally owned. As well as proudly 50% female owned. Of our 14 strong team, 11 are women with 2/3 of our clinical team being female.
However, we recognise that International Women’s Day isn’t just about quoting numbers.
In addition. As part of our commitment to women and our community, Canberra Dental Care is a proud sponsor of Canberra United Football Club. We believe that by supporting women in sport we are supporting women to breakdown traditional gender barriers.
Appointments are available with all our clinical team by booking on line or phoning our reception staff.
